Athena Tergis & Liam Flanagan
BWMF26 is proud to present Athena Tergis & Liam Flanagan.
Bringing together two of the most formidable forces in contemporary Irish fiddling, Athena Tergis and Liam Flanagan offer a performance defined by technical brilliance and a deep, shared respect for the tradition.
Athena Tergis is a world-renowned fiddler whose journey has taken her from the sessions of Galway to the bright lights of Broadway. Originally from San Francisco, Athena’s musicality was forged under the tutelage of masters like Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Alasdair Fraser. Her storied career includes starring as the principal fiddler in Riverdance on Broadway, touring with the Sharon Shannon Band, and a long-standing collaboration with Mick Moloney in The Green Fields of America. Now based in Tuscany, Athena returns to the Irish stage with a style that is as elegant as it is energetic, characterized by a unique “global” perspective on traditional tunes.
Joining her is Liam Flanagan, a native of North County Cork and one of the most respected fiddle and banjo players in the country. Liam is perhaps best known as a key member of the legendary Cork band North Cregg, with whom he has toured the world and recorded extensively. His playing is deeply rooted in the rhythmic “lift” of the Sliabh Luachra tradition, yet he is celebrated for a versatility that has seen him perform with high-profile acts like Danú and the Derek Hickey Quartet.
