The Songs of Dolores Keane feat. Elaine Cormican and friends
Celebrate The Songs of Dolores Keane featuring Elaine Cormican and friends with very special guest, Karan Casey.
Join us in a celebration of the songs of the late and great Dolores Keane. This iconic singer has left us with an amazing legacy of Irish traditional songs and ballads that have captured the hearts of many Irish households and beyond down through the years.
On Friday 12th June at the White Horse you will be immersed in a selection of songs that Dolores sang throughout her career, from older traditional songs such as A Stór Mo Chroí and The May Morning Dew to more recent well known songs like The Island and Caledonia. On the night, these songs will be interspersed with rhythmic and uplifting sets of traditional Irish music tunes.
Elaine Cormican, originally from Galway and a founding member of the all-female band Líadan and solo artist, will lead the performance on the night. Elaine, who has been an avid follower of Dolores for many years, has her own unique voice and puts her stamp on this rich repertoire, while always staying true to the original songs and maintaining a link with Dolores’ versions.
Karan Casey, who joins as special guest on the night, is internationally renowned and has toured extensively both as a founding member of Solas and in her own right as singer and song-writer. Karan’s wide-ranging repertoire has seen her explore many song types, including those of our own Dolores Keane.
The band members on the night come from the cream of the crop of Irish musicians and all have performed world wide on various stages. Eoin Coughlan, on guitar, a member of The Oars and also formerly of Nomos, brings his rhythmic drive and charisma to tunes and songs alike. Caoimhín Vallely inspires with his tasteful piano accompaniment that has led him all over the world with such groups as North Cregg and Buille. Nigel Grufferty, from Tipperary, performs regularly with John Spillane, and has an indelible touch on the fiddle in his tune playing and in his enriching song accompaniments. Tommie Cunniffe, originally from Roscommon but resident in Cork for many years, has his own trademark style of playing button accordion and has toured worldwide. His solo album, Unbuttoned, features many of his own compositions. He currently spends much time playing the session scene with many well-known Cork-based musicians.
