A Look Back at our Friday Headliner

White Horse Guitar Club with guest David Murphy

A cornerstone of the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival, The White Horse Guitar Club brought their unmistakable sound and soul-stirring harmonies back to the stage they call home—joined on this special occasion by renowned pedal steel player David Murphy.

Formed in the snug back room of The White Horse itself, the 11-piece collective has grown into a powerful live act known for their rich vocal blend, raw acoustic arrangements, and deep reverence for the Americana, folk, and roots traditions. With influences spanning from The Band and Townes Van Zandt to traditional Irish ballads, their performances are built on camaraderie, storytelling, and songcraft that resonates across generations.

Joining them was David Murphy, one of Ireland’s foremost pedal steel and lap steel players. Known for his emotive playing and sought-after session work, Murphy added an atmospheric depth to the band’s already dynamic sound. His nuanced touch on the steel created moments of breathtaking beauty—bending notes that lingered like memory itself.

This performance was more than a homecoming; it was a celebration of community, brotherhood, and the shared language of song. The White Horse Guitar Club, bolstered by Murphy’s magic on steel, delivered a set that felt both timeless and alive—reminding us all of the power in voices raised together.
